"Kali's Odiyyaa : A Shaman's True Story of Initiation "
-- by Amarananda Bhairavan ; Paperback - 320 pages (June 2000)
Nicolas Hays; ISBN: 0892540486 ; Dimensions (in inches): 0.83 x 8.97 x 6.08 $15.96
Review:Amarananda Bhairavan has done the world a tremendous favor by committing to words his experiences under the tutelage of a hidden Tantric saint in a matriarchal society, one which has regrettably faded into obscurity. In an age where the local newspapers are full of personal ads hawking "tantric counseling," it is refreshing to come upon a work that clearly delineates what Tantra really means in its original cultural context. Bhairavan's book is recommended to anyone who is interested in Kali devotion or an exploration of authentic Tantric practices not yet poisoned by the Western stereotyping one normally finds in works published on the subject.

"Chandi Path "
-- by Swami Satyananda Saraswati ; Paperback (December 1995) Devi Mandir; $15.00
When Swami Satyananda's guru invited him to trek into the Himalayas, he asked what he should bring along. "Nothing," came the reply. Fifteen years later, Swamiji knew the mountain pathways as well as the Hindu systems of worship. His numerous books and translations of ancient Sanskrit texts are available all over India, as well as in the United States, and he is widely regarded as a Master of the ancient Vedic fire ceremony and other systems of worship. (This is the most important Hindu scripture on Devi. Swamiji gives a unique and scholarly translation. A must for all devotees of the Goddess. Jai Mata Di)

Tantra : The Path of Ecstasy
by Georg Feuerstein
Paperback - 224 pages (July 1998) $12.76
(The author, Georg Feuerstein , June 29, 1998
This book rectifies popular misconceptions about Tantra.
The popular Western (and even Eastern) opinion about Tantra is that it is "spiritual sexuality" at best or "sexual libertarianism" at worst. In actual fact, only some schools of Tantra employ ritualized sex as one of the five "ingredients" of its path to liberation. But even these more radical (left-hand) schools emphasize bliss rather than pleasure. I wrote this book with the intention to help correct that widespread misconception and to show the Tantric tradition in its real magnificence. I regard Tantra as post-Vedic India's greatest spiritual tradition. )
